In combat if a character loses all of their health points (HP) they're rendered dead. All actions done in combat (by both players and monsters) consumes an amount of AP and all movement consumes MP. Players use a series of spells (which are unique to that character class) to, amongst other effects, attack, heal, buff or drain one's Action Points (AP) or Movement Points (MP). Once a fight begins, no other players may join that fight. As such, when a player attacks monsters – they are transported to a 'copy map' where the fighting takes place. While the game takes place in real-time, combat in Dofus is conducted more like a turn based strategy game – where each player takes it in turns to make a series of moves and attacks within a time limit. Players complete quests to gain experience and other rewards. Many also become part of guilds, to more easily coordinate with others. Players may also decide to take up professions and frequently band together to undertake dungeons. Players receive a special 'aura' when they reach level 100, and gain a different aura at 200, the maximum level. Players can access new spells and equipment by advancing in level. With each level, players gain points that can be used to improve their avatar's characteristics and spells. Experience can be gained by defeating monsters and completing quests. As with most other massively multiplayer online role-playing games, players gain levels by obtaining experience. Each class has a unique set of spells that other classes can not obtain. Players control a 2D avatar belonging to one of 18 character classes in a third-person view. It is written by Tot, co-creator of the game, and drawn by Ancestral Z.ĭofus takes place in "The World of Twelve", named for the 12 gods that inhabit it. The first derivative work is the manfra Dofus, the first volume of which was released on October 10, 2005. From this first success will appear many derivative products, including two other video games, Arena in 2011 then Wakfu the following year, and television ( Wakfu, Dofus: Aux trésors de Kerubim) and cinematographic ( Dofus, book 1: Julith). Players can choose to engage in Player versus player combat, Player versus environment combat, or participate in the game's economy by obtaining and/or trading in-game items.ĭofus is the first Ankama product to take place in the transmedia world of the Krosmoz. The game features an open world that allows for a high level of player autonomy. Players must find the six primordial Dofus, dragon eggs that confer great power on their bearer, which are scattered across the world. So while a younger person might find the voices fun, it actually makes it quite difficult for someone to understand them.Dofus takes place in the World of Twelve, a High fantasy universe. Even though it was aimed at a younger audience the characters here all have distracting accents that make it very difficult to understand. Like with Wakfu, I tried to practice my french while watching the shorts but it was even worse here. I do like that it tried to show how the characters had evolved over the years however. It doesn’t help that the movie drags and there aren’t as many memorable characters nor a very compelling plot. The story is a little more in the vein of something from Wakfu and I think the movie suffers a bit for it as I didn’t expect this tone for the movie. Here you have a slightly older Jaris and it’s his adventure this time. The animation is even nicer than in the show, which for a bunch of shorts the animation was as good as Wakfu’s so it is impressive for both. The show spawned a movie which judging by the title they were planning for more but didn’t quite get to doing them. Not to mention that the show actually has an ending. The show really has a little bit of everything including comedy, action and good stories. It is true the majority follow this format but not that also doesn’t discredit the stories as some are nice.īut we do get a nice mixture of stories, you have a multi-part episode, you get to meet recurring characters, you see the origin of events and items that are in the background or described in other episodes and you even get some stories that are in the “present” day which are just as fun. ![]() The first few episodes set up the status quo and after that we star getting a few episodic shows and if you don’t watch much more than that you may very well think that all episodes are like that. While most of the show is indeed episodic which is one of the main criticisms this show offers a lot.
